Terms of service

1. Acceptance of terms

By accessing or using FacultyDex (“the Service”), operated by FacultyDex (“we”, “us”, or “our”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. Description of service

FacultyDex provides a platform for academic professionals to create and host professional websites. The Service includes tools for importing academic data, building web pages, and publishing sites on facultydex.org subdomains or custom domains.

3. Accounts

You must provide accurate information when creating an account. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials and for all activity under your account. You must be at least 18 years old to use the Service.

4. Your content

You retain ownership of all content you upload or create through the Service, including profile information, publications, images, and page content. By using the Service, you grant us a limited license to host, display, and distribute your content as necessary to operate the Service and make your published sites accessible.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
  • Upload content that infringes on intellectual property rights
  • Misrepresent your identity or academic credentials
  • Use the Service to promote unrelated commercial offerings (e.g., tutoring services, courses, paid products) or for SEO/backlink schemes
  • Use the Service in a way inconsistent with its stated purpose of hosting academic professional websites
  • Attempt to interfere with or disrupt the Service
  • Use automated tools to scrape or access the Service without permission

6. Subscriptions, billing, and renewal

The Service offers a Free tier and a Pro subscription. Pro is offered at the following prices (United States Dollars):

  • Pro Monthly: $4.99 USD per month
  • Pro Annual: $49.99 USD per year

Pro subscriptions purchased through our website are billed by Stripe. Pro subscriptions purchased through the iOS app are billed by Apple, charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase, and governed additionally by the Apple Media Services Terms.

Auto-renewal: All Pro subscriptions automatically renew at the same price and billing period unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Renewal payments are charged within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period.

Cancellation: You may cancel at any time. For web subscriptions, cancel through your account settings. For iOS subscriptions, cancel through Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions on your device. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you retain access to Pro features until that date.

Refunds: We do not offer refunds for partial subscription periods, including unused portions of monthly or annual terms. For purchases made through Apple, refund requests must be submitted to Apple via reportaproblem.apple.com and are subject to Apple’s refund policy.

Pricing changes: We may change subscription pricing with at least 30 days’ notice by email. Your continued use of the Service after a price change constitutes acceptance of the new price.

7. Apple App Store terms

If you use the FacultyDex iOS app, you acknowledge that these Terms are between you and FacultyDex only, not Apple Inc. (“Apple”), and that Apple is not responsible for the app or its content. The license granted to you for the iOS app is governed by the Apple Standard End User License Agreement (the “Apple EULA”), which is incorporated by reference. To the extent these Terms conflict with the Apple EULA with respect to the iOS app, the Apple EULA controls.

Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the iOS app. Apple is a third-party beneficiary of these Terms and may enforce them against you.

8. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account at any time, with or without cause, with or without notice, in our sole discretion. You may delete your account at any time through your account settings, which will permanently remove your data and unpublish any sites.

9. Disclaimer of warranties

The Service is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation. FacultyDex is currently in early access and features may change.

10. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, FacultyDex shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service.

11. Governing law and jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Michigan, United States of America, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. You agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Washtenaw County, Michigan for any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service.

12. Changes to terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. We will notify registered users of material changes by email.
